Kilve beach is in the middle of a fascinating stretch of West Somerset coastline between Watchet and Lilstock. The cliffs are alternating layers of limestone and shale, lying at a shallow angle to the surface. TheĀ materials erode at different rates, producing spectacular patterns on the beach and wonderfully textured cliffs. At one time a wharf allowed small vessels to load and unload at the beach neal Lilstock, and the remains of the wooden pillars are still visible and make patterns among the pebbles.
This is photographer's paradise - visit at low tide to see itĀ at its best.
